The Small Business Technology Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, public benefit corporation that fosters the adoption of Information Technology among small businesses through awareness, education, counseling and support services. We also deliver market intelligence and knowledge that helps technology providers develop products that meet the needs of small businesses.
As a technology advocate, advisor and publisher, we are fully committed to protecting your right to privacy. We collect information from visitors in several areas on Web sites owned by the Small Business Technology Institute, including www.sbtechnologymagazine.org. This is done to provide the best customer service and deliver timely information on technology trends among small businesses.
We will always ask you when we need you to provide personally-identifiable information. We will never sell, share, or rent individual information collected on our sites to any third parties.
What We Collect
To establish an account or access requested content on some areas of our Sites, users may be asked to complete a registration or request form. The personal information we collect may include, but is not limited to: your name; organization name; mailing address; phone number; email address; and information about your business and IT environment. We use this information for activities such as: fulfilling information requests regarding our products and services; surveying or qualifying applicants for confidential studies; processing event registrations; and processing subscription requests for Small Business Technology Magazine. We may also use the information to contact you regarding future offerings and events from the Small Business Technology Institute that may be of interest to you.
After establishing an account, users may login to access to Basic or Premium content areas (such as searching the Knowledge Base). Subsequent visits to our Sites require a login to access Basic and Premium areas.
Use of Your Personal Information
We may collect information about your visit, such as the date and time you accessed our Sites and your movement between areas of our Sites. This information is aggregated and analyzed to help improve our content, personalize your experience and optimize our Site performance. For research purposes, we may aggregate anonymous personal and demographic information from registrations and online surveys. Your personally-identifiable information will never be shared with third parties.
When you register on our Sites, we will send an email containing a link to verify your request and activate your account. We may send further email communications to update you on related products and services that may be of interest to you. Our email communications include an unsubscribe link allowing you to stop the delivery of that type of communication.
Registered users may, at any time, retrieve their username or password for Premium areas on our Sites by clicking here. Users may update their account profile and reset their password by clicking here.
Sharing of Data and Information
Visitors are sometimes invited to take part in our research studies in which they provide information about their business and IT preferences. Participation is entirely voluntary and incentives vary. The demographic and trend information we collect is analyzed in aggregate to help drive our publishing and market intelligence efforts. This data/information is never linked to any personally information that can identify any individual company or person.
We use outside vendors to ship orders (i.e. overnight shipments or subscriptions to Small Business Technology Magazine). These companies do not retain, share, store, use or sell personally identifiable information for any secondary purposes.
Special Services for Partners
Some services on sbtechnologymagazine.org, including the Knowledge Partner directory, allow third party businesses and organizations to create a customized page on our Site and publicly display their information to promote their services and contacts. Registered Knowledge Partners are invited to place reciprocal links and authorized images on their Sites linking back to sbtechnologymagazine.org. These activities must comply with our Copyright Policy, and participation in our Knowledge Partner directory is always optional.
Cookies

We do not collect credit card information on our Sites and credit card information is not stored in our databases. We request information (i.e. contact name, shipping address) to initiate the processing of orders on our Sites (such as applying for a subscription to Small Business Technology Magazine). To complete an order (i.e. paying for a subscription or training class), our Sites refer users to www.PayPal.com and www.acteva.com. These sites collect credit card information and process your payment, and subsequently notify Small Business Technology Institute to confirm your payment date and payment amount. All other details regarding your transaction on these third party sites, including your credit card number, are not collected or stored by Small Business Technology Institute and are subject to the Security and Privacy Policies of the third party provider.
