About SheBusiness

It is a known fact that women and in particular women belonging to ethnic minorities have fewer opportunities than men to start and run their own businesses. This is even more evident when it comes to businesses that make wide use of information technology or are based on eCommerce processes.

The internet in fact, instead of fulfilling its promise to offer a level business field for both men and women, has revealed itself as a business environment that is far from being a place where women are fully integrated and are offered equal entrepreneurial opportunities.

Above and beyond the traditional difficulties in accessing capital, most difficulties for women wanting to start their own eBusiness or add an online component to their businesses, are caused by a lack of familiarity with the information technology needed and the basic online business and eCommerce processes, as well as the lack of resources and knowledge needed to establish an online presence.

The SBTI staff has assisted over 100 women entrepreneurs in understanding and adopting information technology, and has directly facilitated and supported the development of 40 women-owned business web sites. Building on this success, we believe that we can utilize what we’ve learnt to now provide an even more efficient approach for this community.

To achieve this, the Small Business Technology Institute, is launching the SheBusiness initiative, consisting of a combination of training, consulting, development and support services aimed at helping women entrepreneurs understand the eBusiness environment, and develop and manage their own eBusiness/eCommerce online presence.

The goal is to facilitate and support the development of viable, sustainable and scalable woman-owned businesses with a strong online component, not just to help develop web sites. The program provides tailored consulting, business insight, concrete support, and a lot of handholding.
