Program Details

The program is articulated over a 12-month period encompassing 4 phases including a Grand Gala Award Ceremony.

The training phase is open to up to 60 attendees and it is free of charge. A $50 deposit is required at the beginning of the first training session and will be refunded at the end of the last training session only to those who have attended at least 3 out of 4 sessions during the program.

Women who have completed 3 out of 4 training sessions will be invited to submit a brief plan on how they intend to utilize the Internet to expand their business. Among the applicants a panel will select 10 candidates who will be awarded the SheBusiness Scholarship and will enter the second phase of the program: Proposal Development and Scholarship Awarding In the second phase, through a combination of workshops, counseling and support, participating women will be guided through the extension of their businesses online.

Phase 1: Open Training

Training session 1

Introduction to eBusiness (4 hours)
What is eBusiness, what models work, what it takes to have a business online or to expand a business with eCommerce. Lessons from dot com successes and failures.

Training session 2
Web Fundamentals and eCommerce Principles (4 hours)
What makes a successful website for small businesses: planning, working with developers, search engines, website marketing, website statistics, typical costs and available tools and resources.
Training session 3
Online Marketing and Advertising (4 hours)
Create a strong demand for your products and services using cost effective digital marketing; elements of online marketing and advertising methodologies, models, successful practices, cost analysis.
Training session 4
Creating and Managing eMail Marketing campaigns (4 hours)
Attendees will obtain both theoretical and practical knowledge to execute an email marketing campaign: message creation and development, customization, list acquisition and management, distribution, analysis, optimization, best practices, costs management.


Phase 2 - Proposal Development and Scholarship Awarding

Proposal

Proposal development period
Women who have attended at least 3 out of 4 training sessions are be eligible to submit a proposal to advance to the next phase of the program and receive $1,000 in funds to support the development of their web site. The proposal must follow a structured template provided by SBTI to ensure full comparability of the submissions and must be completed in 15 days.

Screening Assessment of proposals and award of SheBusiness “scholarships” funds Proposal are reviewed and scored by an internal committee based on a standardized scorecard keeping into consideration a combination of business and technical parameters.

 

Phase 3: Planning
Consulting Status/needs assessment, web audit
Assessment of participants’ individual situation and needs. Development of recommendations to provide the basic platform to develop eBusiness. Performance of web site audit, if a site already exists.  
Planning Workshop

eBusiness Planning workshop (6 hours)
The selected SheBusiness participants are engaged into a comprehensive web planning workshop focusing on the needs of companies with intensive online components. Participants are required to possess a business plan.

RFP Development

 

The workshop provides participants with the necessary tools and guidance to write a comprehensive Request for Proposal (RFP) for the development of their web site. Such RFP, including site map, storyboard and page-level architecture will be used to solicit web development bids. RFPs must be completed in 30 days. 
Review RFP review
Participants’ RFPs are individually reviewed and critiqued. A on-site group presentation will close phase 3.

 

Phase 4: Development
Development

Web Site development - Monday, May 22
Attendees move into development phase and are responsible for finding, selecting and engaging web development resources to act upon the RFP plan. Businesses have 120 days to fully complete the development of their project.

Completion  Web Sites review - Monday, June 12
Completed sites are reviewed and compared for consistency and quality against the original RFP and judged using a standardized scorecard for the awarding of the $10,000 Grand Scholarship.

 

Phase 5: Program Conclusion
Awards

Standard and Grand Scholarship Awards - Thursday, July20 - Millennium Biltmore Hotel - 6pm
Awardees are recognized at a final event and publicly awarded the funds. The winner of the grand scholarship is announced. Event is marketed to the local community, media and community partners.
